Who We Are
The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) stands as a premier institution dedicated to shaping the future of India’s vibrant gem and jewellery industry. Established in 1986 under the aegis of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), IIGJ was born from a vision to nurture talent and drive innovation in one of India’s most treasured sectors. The GJEPC, since its inception in 1966, has been the cornerstone of India’s export success in gems and jewellery, operating sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
With a strong legacy and a forward-looking approach, IIGJ offers comprehensive education and training programs across its campuses in Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Varanasi, and Udupi. We provide a wide array of opportunities, from post-graduate and undergraduate degrees to diplomas, professional certifications, and specialized courses tailored for both aspiring students and seasoned industry professionals. Our curriculum is designed to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, ensuring our graduates are well-equipped to lead in a global marketplace.

Vision
To deliver knowledge about gems and jewellery to aspiring young professionals and entrepreneurs to help build their careers and businesses by developing their understanding of the beautiful world of gemstones, designing, manufacturing and management of jewellery businesses.
Our Journey
1986
GJEPC establishes the Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) at Jhandewalan with the aim of training professionals for the expanding gems & jewellery industry.
1995
JPDC Delhi ties-up with Indo-German Export Promotion (IGEP) with German experts brought in to head the institute and bring latest developments in jewellery design and jewellery manufacturing.
1998
Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) Jaipur established.
2003
On 22nd November 2003, the first Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery is inaugurated at Mumbai.
2010
On 7th July 2010, JPDC Delhi becomes Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Delhi.
2010
Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Jaipur inaugurated on 13th December, 2010 with a 40,000+ sq.feet campus.
2016
Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Varanasi is inaugurated.
2017
Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Udupi is inaugurated.
2019
The hostel at IIGJ Jaipur is inaugurated, with a 40,000 sq ft campus.
2024
IIGJ becomes GJEPC’s training partner to facilitate skilling programs for Goldsmith (Sonar) under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, with an MOU signed between the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
2024
IIGJ, Guwahati Campus, was launched on 23rd September 2024 to implement the PM Vishwakarma (Sunar) initiative in the North-East.
2024
IIGJ, Ratnagiri Campus, was inaugurated on 24th September 2024 to provide jewellery skills training in the region.
