Who We Are

In 1986, a bold vision took shape: to enable India’s gem and jewellery industry with talent, innovation, and leadership. This vision led to the establishment of the Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) in Delhi, India’s first institute dedicated to professional jewellery education.

Building on its success, the model evolved and in 2001, the first Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) was inaugurated in Mumbai, setting a new benchmark for professional jewellery education.

What began as one institute in Delhi has since evolved into a dynamic network of 7 institutes across India – empowering thousands of learners and professionals to shape the future of jewellery through innovation and excellence.

IIGJ offers more than education, skilling and training; it provides industry-focused, impact-driven transformation.

IIGJ has built a community of over 25,500+ alumni shaping careers across global markets by blending heritage craftsmanship with cutting-edge design and new-gen technology.

Our Journey

1986

GJEPC establishes the Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) at Jhandewalan with the aim of training professionals for the expanding gems & jewellery industry.

1995

JPDC Delhi ties-up with Indo-German Export Promotion (IGEP) with German experts brought in to head the institute and bring latest developments in jewellery design and jewellery manufacturing.

1998

Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) Jaipur established.

2003

On 22nd November 2003, the first Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery is inaugurated at Mumbai.

2010

On 7th July 2010, JPDC Delhi becomes Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Delhi.

2010

Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Jaipur inaugurated on 13th December, 2010 with a 40,000+ sq.feet Institute.

2016

Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Varanasi is inaugurated.

2017

Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Udupi is inaugurated.

2019

The hostel at IIGJ Jaipur is inaugurated, with a 40,000 sq ft Institute.

2024

IIGJ becomes GJEPC’s training partner to facilitate skilling programs for Goldsmith (Sonar) under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, with an MOU signed between the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
