Training & Skilling

Skilling Programs from IIGJ

India’s gems and jewellery industry, globally known for its rich heritage and product quality, is expanding rapidly, and the need for larger numbers of skilled workers is growing alongside it. IIGJ is pivotal in addressing this demand, working closely with government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma (PMV) to build a talent pool that balances traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma

This upskilling program plays a critical role in training goldsmiths (Sunars), who have long been the backbone of the jewellery industry. It combines traditional skills with modern technology, ensuring artisans can have a wider reach than earlier possible. Through basic and advanced training programs, participants receive certifications, toolkits, digital marketing knowledge and collateral-free loans. All our IIGJ campuses are affiliated to the PMV program across India, and we are expanding our PMV training centres in various states on an ongoing basis.

Training Programs at IIGJ

IIGJ’s Training & Skilling program offerings provide comprehensive education and development opportunities for individuals at all levels within the gems and jewellery sector. The programs emphasise the integration of time-honoured artisanal techniques with contemporary tools and practices, fostering both technical proficiency and creative expertise. With courses covering key areas such as computer-aided jewellery design and modern manufacturing techniques, participants are empowered to meet the evolving demands of the industry. By leveraging key partnerships, IIGJ ensures a competitive edge for its graduates in both local and global markets.

Key programs at IIGJ include Retail Sales Training and
Gold Appraiser, which are designed for both new entrants
and those already working in the sector.

Gold Appraiser Training

In this program, participants gain an in-depth understanding of gold's properties, purity and valuation techniques. Trainees learn the required theory and mathematics, the touchstone method, acid testing and modern electronic devices to evaluate gold’s quality and authenticity. Hands-on lab sessions enhance their ability to assess various gold forms with confidence, preparing them to work in diverse settings like banks, jewellery stores and appraisal firms.

Retail Sales Training

Retail is a major driver of the jewellery business, and IIGJ’s program focuses on both technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. Trainees are taught how to communicate the value of different metals and gemstones, guiding customers through high-value purchases. The curriculum also emphasises customer relationship management and the importance of delivering a memorable shopping experience, essential in a market that relies heavily on trust and personalisation.

In collaboration with GJEPC, IIGJ’s training programs aim to meet both domestic and international market needs. By continually updating its offerings and incorporating real-world applications, IIGJ ensures its graduates are industry-ready and primed for success in an evolving sector of industry.
