About

Whether a single gemstone or multiple gemstones of same type or various types of gemstones mounted in a single piece of jewellery or a decorative item, our jewellery reports cover them all in a single report. Range of spectrometers available at IIGJ-RLC can readily identify the gemstones even when mounted in a jewellery piece, without the need of unmounting or damaging them.

Typical report describes gross weight, article type, metal used and its purity (as declared by the depositor), net weight of stones/diamonds (if desired and declared by the depositor), colour and identification. Treatments such as coating, dyeing, glass-filling are disclosed, while other treatments remain undisclosed in this category of certification. In addition to identification of diamonds, quality grades, including colour range, clarity range, fluorescence grade, finish will also be disclosed on reports, if desired by the depositor.

Limitation of Identification Service

Treatment identification is obtained based on the current knowledge at the time of examination. Results given for the same item may lead to different results with continuing research. Often, gemstones (example, yellow sapphires) are irradiated to modify / improve the colour. Irradiation is unidentifiable by the current gemmological tests and hence, its presence or absence will not be indicated on the IIGJ-RLC identification reports. Colour of certain stones (example, orange –yellow sapphires) may fade with the time. IIGJ-RLC Jaipur shall not be held responsible for any compensation if the colour of stones (including sapphires) fade after the certification. In certain cases, because of the lack of evidence / characteristic features in the samples or lack of some specific equipment, the sample may be returned without any identification report. IIGJ-RLC Jaipur in routine employs non-destructive methods of identification, however, in certain cases destructive methods shall be employed on the permission of the Customer / depositor.

OTHER GEMSTONES

Most of the gemstones such as aquamarine, chalcedonies, feldspars, quartzes, tanzanite, tourmaline, topaz, spodumene, etc. are heated or irradiated to produce commercially important colours. These treatments are currently unidentifiable by gemmological analyses, and hence, IIGJ-RLC reports do not comment anything about presence or absence of such methods. However, such stones are considered for disclosure for fissure filling, impregnations, dyeing or coating.
